Synergies for a Climate Resilient Turkana Community

In 2025, Green Initiative Kakuma implemented a project under the Pulitzer Center COP30 CSO Microgrant. • Women
  • Pastoralists
  • Community leaders
  • Local climate actors

Key Project Activities

Five threads of community action

  1. 01

    Capacity Building Workshops

In collaboration with SMACHS Foundation, GIK trained pastoralists and local participants on sustainable grazing, water conservation, alternative livelihoods, climate resilience, conflict-sensitive resource management, and community-led adaptation planning.

  2. 02

    Media Awareness Campaigns

Through Page-IX Digital Magazine, the project used storytelling to broadcast community stories, amplify local voices, share peacebuilding experiences, and document community-led climate action across Turkana and Pokot communities.

  3. 03

    Youth and Women Empowerment

Training sessions equipped youth and women with leadership skills in climate resilience and conflict resolution: youth climate leadership, women’s participation, grassroots peacebuilding, conflict resolution, community organizing, and climate advocacy.

  4. 04

    Intergenerational Dialogue

A platform for elders and youth to share ecological knowledge, build mutual understanding, and develop shared climate adaptation planning rooted in local culture.

  5. 05

    Focus Group Discussions

Community-driven sessions to gather perspectives on climate change, resource use, peacebuilding, and indigenous knowledge, surfacing local challenges and co-creating solutions.
