Green Initiative Kakuma was founded in June 2023 by four young people from Kakuma Town who shared a common concern about climate change in Turkana County.

Beyond the founders
A wider network of community climate leaders
GIK works with elders, women, pastoralists, youth, climate communicators, agroecology trainers, and community organizers from across Turkana County. Together we run workshops, dialogues, and media campaigns on climate resilience and indigenous knowledge.
We also collaborate closely with our partners SMACHS Foundation, Page-IX Digital Magazine, and the Pulitzer Center, alongside local community leaders from the Turkana and Pokot communities.
